Predictive Technology

Two Examples

#1 - A customer visits a web site to order cell phone products. The web site asks the customer to login (or it knows the identity of the customer from a "cookie" stored in the browser). The software has stored customer preferences from many sources: occasional question-and-answer surveys, page-clicks on previous visits to the site, product orders, and product wishlists. Plus, the software may offer products that were liked by other customers with similar preferences. Results: sales increase because customers can find more products that appeal to them.

#2 - A customer visits a web site 2 weeks before their spouse's birthday. Predictive Technology reminds them that the birthday is coming soon, and suggests some products which they ordered last year at this time. Furthermore, if the software knows the spouse's age or preferences, more product suggestions can be made. In general, the software can make suggestions for birthdays, anniversaries, and can analyze orders from last month and last year. Result: seasonal sales increase because products are introduced in a timely fashion. Result #2: customers frequent the site more often, knowing that it makes helpful suggestions and saves them time.
